The summer of 2010 marked another year of bounty at the Gift of Life Garden.
Despite a challenging beginning with cut worms and slugs, we were able to get our plants growing and producing.
Weekly donations of fresh organically grown lettuce, radishes, sweet peas, Swiss chard, beets, beans (green, yellow and purple) cucumbers, squash, rutabagas, carrots, potatoes, kohlrabi, onions, garlic, and a variety of fresh herbs were provided to the Salvation Army Food Bank in Midland, as well as to Wendat, an organization to help people suffering from mental illness in North Simcoe. |

We are pleased to say that we supported 25 to 30 families per week at the Food Bank alone.
As well, we were able to make our annual trek to the People with AIDS Food Bank in Toronto, to deliver one donation of surplus to Rosewood, a home for women in crisis, in Midland.
This past summer, we received many in-kind gifts of great significance and generosity. For the fifth season, McGill Environmental Resources donated a portable toilet.
Again, Dr. David Campbell of Heritage Animal Hospital in Midland, donated many loads of seasoned horse
'bi-product' which ensured the health and growth of the plants. And it was a particularly welcome surprise when Mike Budgell, the son-in-law of one of our dedicated volunteers, installed a professional-grade irrigation system at the Garden! Many, many thanks to all of our supporters and friends.
Plans are already in place for this year's season. Karen, Carol, Donna and I are ready to get started. Our men from Toronto, Dennis, Robert, Ed, and Wayne, are looking forward to spending days with us as well.
It promises to be a great year!
